Moto Z & Moto Z Play Launched with Moto Mods in India at Rs 39,999 and Rs 24,999
Lenovo India on Tuesday launched the Moto Z and Moto Z Play modular smartphones in India, along with the Moto Mods. The Moto Z has been priced at Rs. 39,999, while the Moto Z Play has been priced at Rs. 24,999. Both smartphones will be available via both Amazon India and Flipkart from 11:59PM on October 17.
The Moto Mods, little modules that add more more to the phone in the form of battery life, a zoom camera or projection, have been launched in India with discounted bundle pricing. The JBL SoundBoost Speaker is priced Rs 6,999, but will cost only Rs 5,999 when bought with the phone. The Hasselblad True Zoom Camera similarly has a price of Rs 19,999 and bundle price of Rs 14,999. The Instashare Projector costs Rs 19,999 and Rs 15,999 in the bundles, the Incipio offGRIDtm Power Pack similarly costs Rs 5,999 and Rs 4999.
What is MotoMod?
The Major Highlighting features of the Moto Z which created a buzz all over the internet was its support for The Moto Mods, to describe MotoMods in Simple terms we can say that the Moto Mods are basically a set of several accessories which can be attached or paired with device to increase its functionality to a certain extent.
These appendages compatible with the Moto Z and Moto Z Play add advanced functionality like battery life, camera quality of projection. The JBL SoundBoost is powerful stereo speaker, while the Insta-Share Projector turns the Moto Z into a 70-inch movie projector. The Incipio offGRIDtm Power Pack adds up to 20 hours of life while the Hasselblad True Zoom adds advanced imaging functionality wiht 10x optical zoom.
The new Moto Z Play also supports The Moto Mods natively and even though there are only a few of them currently available it has been fully assured by the Lenovo that in coming future there will be several new mods available which will help in increasing device’s functionality in various aspects, For example there is currently a Moto Mod called Hasselblad True Zoom which on being attached to the back of the device increases the device’s optical zooming capabilities to a larger extent.

Both phones will be launched running Android Marshmallow, but might be getting Android Nougat very soon. According to reports, Motorola already has plans to roll out Android 7.0 Nougat for the Moto Z series, and might be coming as soon as in Q4 of this year. Motorola is also planning to bring the latest Android OS to Moto G4 and G4 Plus.
The Moto Z sports a 5.5-inch QHD (1440x2560 pixels) Amoled display, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC coupled with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The smartphone bears a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, laser autofocus, optical image stabilisation, and dual-LED flash. It can record 4K video at 30fps. On the front, is a 5-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture, a wide-angle lens, and its own flash.
It has been launched in its 64GB storage variant with storage expandability via microSD (up to 2TB). Connectivity options on the Moto Z include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack on board, however, the company is bundling a 3.5mm-to-USB-Type-C adapter.
The smartphone is powered by a 2600mAh battery, which is rated to deliver up to 24 hours of mixed usage battery life. With the TurboPower charger, the company says 15 minutes of charging will deliver 7 hours of battery life. It measures 153.3x75.3x5.19mm, and weighs 136 grams.
The Moto Z Play (seen below) is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM. It bears a 16-megapixel rear camera with laser autofocus, PDAF, an f/2.0 aperture, dual-lED flash, and 4K video recording at 30fps. On the front is a 5-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture, a wide-angle lens, and its own flash. The smartphone bears 32GB of inbuilt storage that's expandable via microSD card (up to 2TB).
Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port.
The Moto Z Play features a 3510mah battery and is also going to be shipped along with a Turbocharger which will be able to give you 9 Hours of battery life with only 15 minutes of charging. Motorola Stated that The Device would last up to 50 hours under mixed usage which seems to be likely true but if you are a heavy user or a Gamer the Phone would last a day or a day and a half for you. It measures 156.4x76.4x6.99mm, and weighs in at 165 grams.
