Panasonic P55 Vs P81 - Which One is For You?
Panasonic can certainly not be counted amongst the companies which successfully encashed the Indian mobile industry’s boom, neither amongst the companies which entered late but sold their devices in millions with disruptive pricing strategies. However, the one thing for which it deserves kudos is its steady growth since it silently entered the Indian smartphone market last year. As of the now the company enjoys 3-4 percent market share, and is eyeing to capture five percent in near future. Considering the cut-throat competition that the industry has witnessed this year, the numbers are certainly not bad, if not too good.
Although the company never focused a lot on promotional activities, but has continuously been offering cost-effective smartphones packed with up-to-date features. Its latest offering, the Panasonic P55 is one such smartphone. The P55 is not just being considered a strong contender against the much-popular Moto G (2nd gen), but also the company’s own flagship, the P81. Display and design
Both Panasonic P55 and P81 are equipped with exactly similar displays. They arrive with 5.5-inch IPS HD screens, which in addition to a smooth touch experience deliver crisp graphics and wide viewing angles.
The P55 obtains a unique tile-patterned back cover. Its 7.9mm thin, weighs just about 148g, and comes in two colors - Black & Pearl White. On the other hand the P81 gets a stylish premium leatherette design with same thickness. It arrives in standard black color only. Both the smartphones receive integrated flip covers and screen guards as bundled accessories. When compared, the P81 looks more posh without any second thought.
Processor and Platform
The Panasonic P55 arrives with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box, whereas the P81 ships with the dated Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean but with a promised upgrade to KitKat. What actually make both the devices equally good are the customized UIs working on top of the stock platforms. Both smartphones are equipped with company's proprietary features including gesture support, multi window, popup player etc.
Despite of similar UIs, the P81 wins hands down when it comes to power packed under the hood. The P55 is equipped with a quad-core processor operated at 1.2GHz, whereas, the P81 gets an octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz. Both the gadgets are equipped with 1GB RAM for aiding to the processor’s function.
Cameras
The Panasonic P55 smartphone is furnished with an 8MP auto focus rear camera, whereas the P81 packs a 13MP shooter. Besides the difference in resolution, both the smartphones come with almost similar camera features including LED flash, 1080p video, burst mode, HDR etc. In terms of front camera, a 2MP front shooter is fitted in both the smartphones. So if you are a selfie-crazy guy, look somewhere else.

Both of them get 2,500mAh lithium-ion batteries, but considering the P81’s octa-core processor, it’s safe to assume that the P55 will have a better backup.
