Samsung Unveils Rugged Smartphone Galaxy Xcover 3
Samsung Mobile has made the rugged smartphone Galaxy Xcover 3 official, bringing a mid-range smartphone that can weather the elements. It's been over two whole years since Samsung's last ultra-rugged device – the Galaxy Xcover 2 – became official, but today we learn that the company isn't yet ready to drop the line from its portfolio. In fact, Samsung has even improved upon the concept.
In terms of ruggedness, Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 comes with IP67 rating which means that the smartphone will not be affected by dust and remain operable even when submerged in 1-metre of water for up to 30 minutes. It also comes with MIL-STD 810G certification means that the smartphone is resistant to dust, humidity, rain, solar radiation, salt, thermal shock, and vibration.
Samsung retains physical keys like Home, Multitasking and back buttons, enabling it to use in extreme temperatures and comes with a Xcover key to turn on the flashlight or double tap to open the camera.
It has a 4.5-inch screen with a 800 x 480 pixel resolution along with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor ticking under the hood, and runs Android 4.4 KitKat. Samsung has plans to upgrade it to Android 5.0 Lollipop in the near future. Other than that, the phone has 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of on-board expandable storage, a 2,200 mAh battery, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, support for NFC and KNOX.
The Xcover 3 also supports LTE frequencies on bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 20. It will also be equipped with an altimeter and a compass, something necessary for adventure junkies out there.
Galaxy Xcover 3 will be available in stores from April at a price of SEK 2,400 (around Rs. 18,000), and Samsung is expected to showcase it at the CeBIT 2015 expo.
Cheers!!!
