Facebook Changes Logo For The First Time Since 2005
Do you remember when did Facebook last time made changes in its logo? It was 2005. The change was so minor that many of the users were not able to identify it. The social networking giant has this year made a change in its main word-mark logo, which again may not be noticed by billions of daily users easily. The change is barely recognizable and needs a little extra effort to spot the difference.
The reason behind changing the logo can be to make it more revealing to users and to feel more friendly and approachable. If you closely look the new logo you won't find much of the difference. It's almost similar to the old one.
There are several minor changes, and seeing the two logos overlaid on each other really makes them apparent. The overall size of the new logo has now shrunk marginally and the letters are slightly slimmer than before in the new typeface. Also, the gaps inside the letters a, e, b, and o have now been made more circular. Besides this, the letter 'a' has been completely overhauled in the new Facebook logo.
The new logo is created by Facebook's in-house design team in partnership with renowned typeface designer, Eric Olson, the man behind the original logo.
"When Facebook's logo was first created in 2005, the company was just getting started and we wanted the logo to feel grown up and to be taken seriously. Now that we are established, we set out to modernize the logo to make it feel more friendly and approachable," Josh Higgins, Facebook's Creative Director, told Brand New magazine.
Cheers!!!
