Samsung Launches Gear VR Headset in India at 8,200 INR
Samsung is known for its smartphones and other electronic devices. In terms of smartphones, they are the leading company which left iPhone way behind when compared with Android. Samsung India, who is launching Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic smartwatches is also launching the new Gear VR headset in the country. Much like Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic smartwatches, the Gear VR will be available the company's physical retail channel as well as online via Flipkart.
It was shown off during the Note 4 launch event and only worked with the Note 4, not to mention was priced out of reach for many. Now, a year later, the Samsung Galaxy VR has partnered with Oculus and is finally available this week for only 8,200 INR. Samsung has partnered with Oculus, which promises to deliver the best VR experience possible, and their approach is a headset that doesn’t have a display. Instead it uses the power behind Samsung’s latest flagship HD smartphones to bring the virtual world to our eyes.
While others like the Google Cardboard are cheap, and the steam-backed HTC Vive isn’t available yet, the new Gear VR is affordable, works with multiple devices, and will be available in time for the holidays as the perfect gift.
The new Samsung Gear VR is 19 percent lighter compared to the previous model. It also features a large touchpad for control. It weighs 318 grams without Galaxy smartphone and measures 201.9x116.4x92.6mm. The Gear VR comes with a field of view of 96 degrees. It packs back, volume, and focus adjustment wheel button for controls. The Gear VR packs sensors such as gyro, accelerometer, and proximity. The device can be charged via Micro-USB. The Gear VR comes with soft, flexible cushioning material, and also features adjustable straps for ease of use.
The Gear VR headgear will support 360-degree videos. Gear VR Consumers Edition that launched last year came with access to Oculus Video and Oculus Arcade for videos and games. The company has not detailed whether the Gear VR will come with access to Oculus videos and games.
How it works:
All you to do is to download some app and attach a smartphone to the headset then strap it to your head, and users can start truly enjoying VR for the first time. Any smartphone display is used to give users a full view of nothing but a virtual world. Perfect for enjoying movies, playing games, visiting cities and other worlds, or enjoying games by just sitting on your sofa.
Supported Devices:
The original Gear VR only worked with the Galaxy Note 4, which made it a device only select people could use. Google’s Cardboard VR headset is more universal, but not nearly as polished of an experience, and navigation is done by moving your head to see, select, and do anything. Instead, the Gear VR does things much different, and promises to be much better.
The new Gear VR works with all of Samsung’s recent high-end smartphones released in 2015. The Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Note 5, and Galaxy S6 Edge+, making it a device that more people can use and enjoy. Delivering Quad-HD resolution images, videos, virtual worlds and gaming right to our faces.
The Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch features a 1.2-inch circular dial with Super AMOLED display. The Classic version of the device will be available with a leather band. The company is also offering a variety of band options in mendini, warm grey and red for Gear S2 and grey leather and brown leather for Gear S2 Classic.
The Samsung Gear S2 is powered by Tizen OS and comes with 4GB of internal memory and 512MB RAM. It runs on 1.0 GHz dual-core processor and is backed by a 250mAh battery. The smartwatch features a built-in heart rate sensor. The Samsung Gear S2 lets users access emails, notifications and messages.
While the Gear VR headset will cost Rs 8,200; Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic will be available on Flipkart for Rs 24, 300 and Rs 25,800, respectively.
Cheers!!!
