Reliance Jio to Launch a Connected Car App

Reliance Jio has introduced their next digital mission. In this mission, they have introduced digital lifestyle. They are introducing car controlled by a mobile app and TV which can store movies and programs in last seven days

Reliance Jio has a new IoT product coming up: ‘Jio Car Connect’, an On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) device that can be plugged into a car’s OBD module to record and track engine and other vehicular related data, as indicated by a Team-bhp report.

Jio Car Connect -- a dongle with Jio SIM and an app in the mobile to convert a simple car into a smart one. The dongle needs to be inserted into the on-board diagnostic port of a car and the app will reveal all activities of the car even when it is kilometres away.  Once plugged in, the device records data from the vehicle’s sensors and displays it on a mobile app. This data is mainly used for diagnosing issues within a vehicle’s system, since the OBD device records vehicle information, acceleration (Rate Per Minute), throttling/revving, instances of braking, fuel/battery efficiency, trip duration, among others.

It not only promises to reduce chances of theft, it can also help prevent it from bad handling by others. This dongle is compatible with all cars manufactured after 2013, officials said.
"Reliance Jio is ready with a car connected device that will have multiple features like immobilise car at the time of theft, alert owner about car movement, locate car and also provide wi-fi within car. The owner needs to use Jio sim in the device to avail benefits," an industry source said.
Jio’s OBD device is still on a testing phase and will also beam WiFi inside a car, since the device apparently runs on a Jio SIM card, the report added. This will provide each vehicle with a virtual identity via an IP address, and allows interconnection with other connected cars. The device can also be used to record traffic details and share alerts in real-time in case the car gets into an accident.

While sitting in the office, one can turn on the engine of the car with the help of the app and switch on the air-conditioning machine on a hot summer day. The company plans to soon launch this product in the market. At present, it is sourcing the device from abroad. But it is in talks with the vendors to set up manufacturing hubs in India as part of its Make in India promotion plans.

Besides this, the company is also scaling up its fiber to the home project for which it is running pilot in some cities including Delhi and Mumbai.
“With Fibre to the home, Jio will focus on automatic entire home from entertainment to home surveillance to utility management,” the source said.
Jio has touched a customer base 7.24 crore and claims to be adding 1 lakh mobile subscribers per day. The company has set target to cross 10 crore customers by March 31, 2017.

Cheers!!!
