You  might be knowing this, or might not be, that Chrome automatically refreshes tabs that you haven’t visited in a while. Actually, this new feature has been added to the browsers in the latest version of Chrome v48. Many time we open several tabs and let it like that way when for a while. Later when we check it, it automatically gets refreshed.

It may happen that you loose something important. Like, you might have typed something or filling a form since long. In such case, if the browsers refreshes, you could the data. Chrome assumes that in the time you opened and then visited the tab, something might have changed. This ensures you always have the latest version of the page. Officially, this feature is called ‘Discarded tabs’. It not only gives you the most recent version of a page but it also aims to reduce memory usage. Here’s how you can disable auto tab refresh in Chrome.

Disable Auto Tab Refresh:

1. Open the chrome browser and type below in the URL:
chrome://flags
2. Scroll down and look for, “automatic-tab-discarding”.

3. Open the drop-down under it. Select ‘Disable’ and relaunch Chrome.

This way you can disable the auto refresh option from the Chrome browser. So not if you even visit the tab after long time, it will still remain the same and won't refresh.

Manually Discarding a tab in Chrome:
You can manually discard the tab. This means that you can manuallr refresh the tab from the Discarded list.

To do that type the following in the chrome URL:
chrome://discards/
Here you will see a complete list of all tabs that you have open in Chrome. Each tab, with its title has a ‘Discard’ link.

So, technically, when you click on the Discard link, the tab won't disappear. But when you visit that tab, you will see that it has been refreshed. Also, to let you know that this feature works in both Windows and Mac.

Cheers!!!
