"Package System is Broken" Error Fixed In Ubuntu

I have never worked more on Linux or Ubuntu. But doe to some work in my office i had work for some browser on Ubuntu 10.4. The problem was, i was trying to uninstall FireFox 18 and wanted to install FireFox 16. I was receiving an error  "The package system is broken" in Ubuntu 10.4. This happens when you install some programme in Ubuntu and all dependencies are not installed, your package system would get corrupted and you wont be able to install new program or package.

Therefore, after googling i found a simple step to overcome this problem. Just follow the steps below;

1. Click on System -> Administration -> Synaptic package Manager.

2. Then select ‘Custom Filters’ from the left menu pane.

3. Next select ‘Broken’ on the left.
You’ll then notice package(s) with the red exclamation marks.

4. Right-click each package and select ‘Mark for Complete Removal’.

5. Then click ‘Apply’ to apply the change. When prompted again, click ‘Apply’ to remove them.

That's it. This way you can overcome that error and will be able to uninstall the application.
