Run iOS Simulator On Windows In Your Web Browser

iOS Simulator is something that we all know. This was developed for iOS phones by the Apple developers. You can use this iOS Simulator to test your websites on iPhone and iPad without having the device.

The iOS Simulator is only available for Mac machines. But not now. The webpage BrowserStack can help us to use the iOS Simulator on Windows. Using BrowserStack you can run the iOS Simulator directly in your web browser without installing any software's.

How does it works:

1. Go to website BrowserStack.

2. Signup for the free trail. Fill in your details and click on the Start Testing button.

3. As you click on Start Testing, you will see the Dashboard page.

4. The left side bar consists of Action, Local Testing and Top Debugging Tools.

5. On the right side you will see the time remaining to test.
Note: Since its a free trail version, you get only 30 minutes to test and use iOS Simulator. Ofcourse, you can again signup using different name or can buy the plan. :)

6. In the center you see a Quick Start section where you have to insert the link, select the platform and select the browser. Your selections will be reflected on the left sidebar under the Actions section.

Starting with the testing for iPhone platform:

1. Enter the URL that you want to test.

2. Select the platform as iOS and device iPhone 5. Click on Start Testing.

3. It will start creating the session as seen in the image below.

4. You will see an actual iPhone 5 like device. Enter you link and start testing.

5. Since i have selected the iPhone5 as a device i need to use the keyboard displayed on the screen instead of my laptop keyboard.

6. It works exactly as it should have work.

7. You can Stop the testing, Full Screen the view or change you platform or device from the Action section displayed on the left of the screen. Also you can change/setup the tunnel or command line.

8. You can also use the Alt+Left/Right arrows to rotate the device.

For the iOS platform they offers the iPhone 3GS/4/4S/5 and iPad 1/2/3 loaded with various version of iOS. You can also choose any browser and other platform. This gives the feel like you are actually running a Mac machine, specially when you are in full screen mode. This fake emulators is very much similar to the Safari app that is available on the actual devices, with only the difference that you are using your mouse instead the touch.

Visit BrowserStack

Cheers!!!

  1. I appreciate the fact that you are informing people of how to test iOS devices without needing to be on a Mac OS X powered device... But, you forgot to mention how slow Browserstack is... Even on the fastest of internet connections. Their servers don't really cut it.
