"Android Device Manager" Can Track Lost Devices

Many of us must have lost the phone once in a while. I had lost thrice :) Though there are various way to receover the lost phone by tracking the IMEI number (which never helped me) there are other ways too. Many thanks to Google. Google has announced plans to introduce phone-finder service "Android Device Manager" which has begun rolling out to some devices this weekend via a Google Play Services update. Verizon and other cellular network providers are already offering similar kind of service. The Android Device Manager will let you find your lost Android device whether you misplaced it at your home or restaurant, or if it has been robbed.

Android Device Manger, which will comprise of a website and Android app, will allow users to locate their device by making it ring to the maximum volume (even when on silent), while its location can be pinpointed in real-time on a map, helping hunt it down if it is lost. If the device has been stolen or misplaced at the mall or some place else, you can still use your Google account to trace the location of your device in real time on a map. If your Android handset cannot be found or if it has been robbed, you can still use the feature to remotely wipe out all data.

As from the screenshot you must have figured it out that the app has three features, screen lock password and remote lock the screen remotely, as well as erasing all data via Device Manager. Out of which i think the "Erase all data" is one of the most important feature, if your phone falls into wrong hands.

On iPhone, Apple is offering similar kind of feature. It is called Find My iPhone. Whereas, Xperia has MyXperia. So far, it seems that this is something everyone will look for. It does seem sort of refreshing that Google has gotten this on so many devices so quickly.

Cheers!!!
