Get Android L’s Heads Up Notifications On Any Android 4.3+ Device
We have recently seen the detail of Android L. Also we went through some of the features that are the highlight of the Android L. One such most interesting feature of Android L is the Heads Up Notification. This was displayed as the most impressive parts of Android L demos in Google I/O 2014. Android L has changed the way the notification is displayed along with the lock screen.
Out of which the Heads up notification was one of the most attractive feature Android L has. The Heads Up notification floats on top of the everything else and you can either swipe it away to dismiss it or tap on one of the buttons to take action.
This can be useful for those who are using the fullscreens apps like games or YouTube. Though you have a notification bar, the notification is displayed in it and you have to drag it down to view it. Having notifications, especially ones from chat clients or email show heads up during an app can remove a lot of friction.
You will have this feature once your phone gets updated to Android L. But as per the Google it will be released till fall of 2014. Also, it will be limited to some of the phone. But now you can have it in your phone having Android versoin 4.3+ (does not require root).

Very thanks to the developer from XDA thread for providing the app. You an also buy it from the Google Play Store @ $0.99.
When you get a notification, all you have to do is to tap on it to open or swipe it to dismiss.
How it works:
1. Download the app and install it.
2. Tap the Start button and you’ll be prompted to grant the app Notification access.
3. After you’ve come back to the app, it will ask you to reboot the phone to apply the changes.
4. Reboot the phone and there you go. (I didn't rebooted my Galaxy S4 and still the Heads Up started working)
The Whitelist:
The notification will be displayed on the heads up. But you might want to edit the list of app fort which the notification will be displayed.
Go to Whitelist -> Add new App and select the app for which you want the heads up.
Note: Go into settings and make sure the option Ignore whitelist is unchecked
Only In Fullscreen Mode And More Options
If you want the functionality to be just like Android L Developer Preview, you can check the option that says Show notifications in fullscreen mode only. You can also have the notifications dismiss automatically after a set period of time. Movement of the position at which the heads up notifications show up is also possible.
Please do let us know what you feel about the Heads Up feature in the new Android L developer preview. I tried it on my Galaxy S4 and it works perfectly.

Cheers!!
