Send Encrypted Messages Through Gmail
We spend most of our time Internet. No matter of we are in office, cafe or home. Everything has became online for which you have to depend on it. The most important part in this is to be safe and secure. This implies to all your mail too. While installing on games on my chrome browser, i came across one very good extension that can help us to secure and encrypt our Gmail messages.
The name of this application is SecureGmail. SecureGmail encrypts and decrypts emails you send in Gmail. This happens all on your machine, and the un-encrypted text never reaches Google servers. This is useful if you don't want anyone but the intended recipient to ever read your email (i.e. companies, governments, etc.). Secure Gmail is an open source application, which uses Symmetric Encryption to encrypt and decrypt your Gmail messages.
Lets see how this works:
1. Download and install the SecureGmail extension on your Chrome browser from here.
2. Once you install the extension, you will see an icon along with the compose button in your Gmail account.
3. To write a normal mail, use the default compose option. To send a secured message, click that lock icon and you will get a secured new message window.
4. Write your mail and click on the Send button.
5. You will see a popup asking for the password to encrypt the mail.
Note: If you want you can give a hint.
6. After sending the message you can give the password to the receiver at the other end to decrypt the message.
7. The encrypted message will look as shown in the screenshot below and the password hint you’ve sent will be available on the subject.
8. Click the “Decrypt Message with Password” link on the top to enter the password and see the original message.
SecureGmail is compatible with any of your Gmail accounts and you can use them across accounts simultaneously. SecureGmail works on personal Gmail accounts or accounts provided by your organization, school, or business.
