Features Of iOS 6
We have already seen the review, spec and feature of iPhone 5. During the pre-booking lakhs of phones were ordered. This time Apple has shown the world something different which they want to see. There was also a rumour that Samsung Galaxy s3 is similar like iPhone 5. Therefore, to clear the doubts, we have seen the post where i have compared Samsung Galaxy s3 Vs iPhone 5. The best thing about the iPhone 5 was the iOS 6. Its the latest edition of its mobile operating system. This brings lots of new feature to older iPhone and iPads. Those who have owned iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, all three iPads and iPod Touch are eagerly anticipating this new feature to their devices.
Lets see what are the key features of iOS 6:
Maps: Apple in, Google Out:
As we all know that Apple was using google's map in their iPhone. But now they came up with their own map. We have also covered this point in our previous posts. This new Apple Maps consists of Voice navigation feature. It has real-time traffic data and offer alternative routes as traffic conditions changes.
The application is built in such a way that it gives 3-Dimensional images of flyovers and mountains and roads. It is been said that special helicopters were hired by the company to fly over major cities. the great thing is that the Apple's map will integrated with its new Siri virtual assistant sing which you can directly ask for directions.
Deeper Facebook Integration:
The new updated software gives better integration with Facebook. At first you will need to log-in then you can post anything you want using various different apps. If you are using Apple's Safari browser, you can directly post from there.
Facebook is now integrated with Apple's online app store so that you can "like" specific apps there, as well as songs and movies in iTunes. Events in Facebook's calendar and birthdays of Facebook friends will also appear on your phone's calendar.
Siri Upgraded:
iOS 6 will add enhancements to Siri, which will also coming to the iPad for the first time. Siri is supposed to get better at fielding questions about movies, restaurants, sports scores and other things and will now be available in more languages and more countries.
Apple has partnered with Yelp so that Siri can include ratings and prices of restaurants when you ask her about places to eat. The company has also joined hands with OpenTable to make reservations.
Apple also says it's working with car manufacturers to let you use a button on the steering wheel to talk to Siri, allowing you to keep your hands on the road. Apple says General Motors, BMW AG and Daimler AG's Mercedes are among the automakers that have promised to offer Siri integration in the next 12 months.
Control over calls and messages:
Don't want to be disturbed? Apple's new software will give you more options for preventing messages and text notifications from disturbing you at night, for instance.
You can control how and when you get back to people. If you can't call someone back right away, you can set a reminder to call that person back later or have a text message sent directly to the caller.
There's a "call when you leave" feature that reminds you to call back when you are leaving a building or office. The phone can detect when you are leaving.
Passbook:
Apple's new Passbook feature will be a central place to keep your boarding passes, tickets and gift cards. When you get to a Starbucks, for instance, the device will bring up your gift card if you have one and if you have the location feature turned on. Likewise, when you get to a movie theater or a match, the ticket will pop up. Passbook will also alert you to gate changes and flight delays once you have a boarding pass stored.
Facetime all the time:
Till last year, Apple's FaceTime video calling app was limited to Wi-Fi networks only, which restricted its usage in a non-Wi-Fi zone.
However, with the iOS 6 update, users can look forward to making FaceTime calls over 3G and 4G networks as well, making video calls on iPhones, iPads and iPad touch totally mobile.
Panorama mode:
Another major addition that iOS 6 brings to the camera is panorama mode, which is better than regular apps available in the App Store. Now users do are restricted to taking a long pic while standing at a single spot if they are clicking a picture in panorama mode.
Rather, they can move about, whirl the camera around, even capture the image of a single object from various angles and leave it to the OS to stitch together the best picture possible.
iCloud, Safari sync:
With the iOS 6 update, iCloud is now deeply integrated in the Safari browser for Apple gadgets. This means, if you open a web page in your iPhone 4S, you will be able to can see the same in other devices, like Mac computers and the iPad as well.
Safari browser in iPhones, iPads and iPod touch will now save your web pages in the Reading List for offline reading. It will also access the Camera Roll of these devices so that you can easily upload photos and videos without switching between apps.
Mail enhancements:
The Mail app in iOS 6 introduces a VIP list, so that you are notified about mail from important contacts (that you assign) even if you turn off notifications. Moreover, the VIP list is iCloud based, so that you need to make the list just once and it will reflect in all your iOS 6 devices.
Another new feature in Mail app is swipe down to update, where you need to pull downwards in order to check if any new has arrived. Apple has also made it easier to attach photos and video clips to emails in the new version of iOS.
No password for free app downloads:
With iOS 6, Apple has done away with the need to provide the password each time you download an app in the App Store.
The overall design of the app marketplace has undergone a change as well, with revamped search results and Genius recommendations.
