Lock Your Desktop The Way You Want

Security is one the main aspect when it comes to computers and privacy. We always lock our PC when we are not using it. Windows 7 and 8 has their own way of locking. But ScreenBlur is good way to lock your PC. ScreenBlur offers you the possibility of safely secure your desktop with a selected password. ScreenBlur is a free tool that can lock and hide your Desktop, requiring a password to unlock.

ScreenBlur enables you to keep your desktop private with a password protected screen overlay or with a Desktop Blackout option, which will temporarily mask your wallpaper, shortcuts to prevent any unauthorized usage. The app has quite a lot of options to lock the desktop with automatic locking option. The tool will lock and hide your Desktop when you choose to do so, blocking access to all areas of your Desktop. It supports auto-lock also, hot-key locking, sound muting and lets you customize the lock screen.

Lets see how this works:

Just run the application and do the necessary changes as required. The best thing about this is that its portable and requires no installation. It run directly by double clicking the .exe file. It stores the password one of its files in the folder. It stays int he System Tray and it has an option to unlock it by using hotkeys. The translucent lock screen allows you to keep an eye on open windows or applications, which preventing others from messing with your computer.

1. ScreenBlur will ask you to set a password. Right click the program's icon in system tray to change the password, lock your screen, and options :
  • Auto Lock : Locks the screen when user does not use the mouse and keyboard for a while.
  • Auto Start : The program starts with windows, and is ready to lock the screen.
2. You can also lock the screen with a left click on its tray icon, or after you set or change
the password.

3. Lock from keyboard: Press and release the left Ctrl key twice.
Note: If you forgot your password, restart the system and remove the Data folder from the applications directory. The program will then ask for a new password.

4. To normally shut down the system when screen is locked, use ScreenBlur's shut down button.

5. When the screen is locked, type your password directly, to unlock it.

There are many other feature using which you can customize the lock screen feature. But i don't think its an fool proof method because, by deleting the Data folder you can change the password anytime you want. But can be good for a change and to prevent others from using your desktop while you are away.

Cheers!!!
