Securely Wipe Your Deleted Data From Laptop/PC

There are times when we want to delete the data from our PC. There can be many reason for the same. Like you need to shift your data on your new PC or you are switching from desktop to Laptop. Or in other case, if you ae in office and you are being provided with new laptop and need to transfer all your data in that case you don't want anyone to to restore you data. You do have an option to delete all you data.

But you must not be knowing, that even you shift+delete your data still there some traces of your data that can be recovered. So you need to wipe the data to not let anyone recover it. So I came across an application which lets you wipe your data, Eraser. Eraser is an advanced security tool for Windows which allows you to completely remove sensitive data from your hard drive by overwriting it several times with carefully selected patterns.

When you delete a file, the operating system does not really remove the file from the disk; it only removes the reference of the file from the file system table. The file remains on the disk until another file is created over it, and even after that, it might be possible to recover data by studying the magnetic fields on the disk platter surface.

Follow the steps below to know how to wipe your data when you delete it.

1. Download and install Eraser application.

2. Run the application.

3. Before you start erasing your data, go to 'Setting' and change the Default file erasure method to Pseudorandom Data (1 pass).
Why this method?
The default erase method "Gutmann (35 passes)" is no longer useful, because most of the patterns in the Gutmann method were designed for older MFM/RLL encoded disks. And, writing a series of 35 patterns is not necessary to make the data unrecoverable, a single pass with random data will do the job.
4. Now save the settings and then you can close the application.

5. Right click on the file(s) you want to erase, and then select Eraser > Erase.

6. An alert window will pop up, click on "Yes" -- the deletion process will start. If you want to see the progress, just click on the Eraser tray icon.

It works with Windows XP (with Service Pack 3), Windows Server 2003 (with Service Pack 2), Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7,8,10 and Windows Server 2012.Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000 can still be used with version 5.7!.It works with any drive that works with Windows.Secure drive erasure methods are supported out of the box.Erases files, folders and their previously deleted counterparts.Works with an extremely customisable Scheduler.

Cheers!!!
