Nokia to Re-launch the Iconic 3310 phone at MWC 2017
Nokia will re-launch the 3310, perhaps the best-loved and most resilient phone in history. According to a popular tipster Evan Blass the HMD Global and Nokia could bring back this phone in a ‘modern’ avatar. The phone, first introduced in 2000, is set to make a comeback at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona.
The iconic phone is expected to sell for €59 (or approx Rs 5000), and could redefine how we view feature phones today. Much before the iPhone came into picture, Nokia ruled the mobile phone market – and one device that truly established its formidable position was Nokia 3310. The legendary phone was popular for many reasons.
For many Nokia fans, the Nokia 3310 was one of the most popular feature phones and was considered to be among the sturdiest handsets ever built. The device featured the ability to compose text messages beyond the SMS character limit, an 84 x 48 pixel monochrome screen, screen savers, a calculator, and games like Snake II. It could even store seven custom ringtones. That’s not all, Nokia 3310 allowed users to replace the front and back covers to make the phone more personal than ever.
Nokia 3310 was known for its durability and the ability to survive in extreme conditions. It was an absolute beast and also featured a long battery that could last 55 hours on standby. Phones made under the Nokia brand are now sold by HMD Global, a Finnish company that bought the rights to the name. HMD will reveal other new mobiles – the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 – at the same MWC event.
Blass, in a Venture Beat report, also hinted that the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 along with Nokia 6 smartphones will be launched.
Nokia 3, Nokia 5: Specifications and Prices
Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 smartphone will be Android 7.0 Nougat-based smartphones featuring toned down innards. Blass claims that Nokia 5 will feature a 5.2-inch HD display while packing just 2GB of RAM. The smartphone will feature a 12-megapixel rear camera. The report suggests a price tag of EUR 199 (roughly Rs. 14,000) for the Nokia 5 at launch citing the person briefed about the plans.
The Nokia 3, on the other hand, is expected to be unveiled at EUR 149 (roughly Rs. 10,500). Blass also mentions Nokia 6 in the report which may mean that the China-exclusive smartphone may finally see a global unveiling.
Nokia 6:
The Nokia 6 smartphone has so far been available in China twice and has seen tremendous response there. In its first flash sale, the Nokia 6 smartphone reportedly went out of stock in a minute. In the meanwhile, the Nokia 6 second flash sale saw 1.4 million registrations. The company hasn't confirmed plans but the Nokia 6 is widely rumoured to launch outside China.
Cheers!!!
