WhatsApp’s New Status feature is Now Live for all: How To Use It?
WhatsApp rolled out a Snapchat-story like status message feature earlier this week and, with this, almost all the entities owned by Facebook have incorporated features inspired by the rival image messaging and multimedia mobile application.
WhatsApp has pushed it out as a OTA update. You won’t have to search for an update on App Store or Google Play Store, as the feature has gone live on the app itself. So first up, Status is no longer that boring text-based thing, which no one bothered to read or care about, although people in India are known to update Status regularly.
The new WhatsApp Status feature allows users to share pictures, videos, and GIFs with their contacts, which will disappear after 24 hours. The feature is an exact clone of Instagram Stories, which in turn emulated Snapchat's feature of the same name. Unlike the other two features though, the new WhatsApp Status will incorporate the same end-to-end encryption enjoyed by the app's traditional messages.
‘Status’ will receive its own tab, located between the ‘Calls’ and ‘Chats’ tabs, in the WhatsApp UI. Within it, users will be able to view their contacts' recent status updates and the replies they've received on their own status. Users also have the option to tweak their privacy settings to make their status visible only to specific people; and by deleting their status, users can remove it from their contacts' phones, regardless of whether they've already viewed it or not.
How it works:
First just go to the Status tab. Then just tap on that broken circle with the plus symbol on top, the one that’s similar to how you post Stories on Instagram. The camera will open, and you can just long press to shoot a video. You can send as video or edit it as a GIF. Or just take a photo like you normally do, and then just send on Status.
WhatsApp lets you control who can see your Status update as well. The Status Privacy option is in the settings. Just tap the three dots on top of WhatsApp homepage, and you’ll see Status Privacy option on top. Once again, you can choose from the three options.
Just like Snapchat lets you see how many people have viewed your story, WhatsApp will let you do the same. Just tap the eye icon at the bottom of any Status update to view a list of contacts who have seen your update.
You can also reply to someone’s Status update. There is a reply button, so you can comment on any photo, video, or GIF. Once you tap reply, your message will be sent in a WhatsApp chat with a thumbnail of the Status update. It’s not clear if that message will also be deleted after 24 hours.
Below your own Status, you’ll see little round heads of your contacts with a blue circle around them. This blue circle indicates they too have a ‘Status’ you can check out. You can keep tapping on these status updates to move from one contact to another.
Conclusion:
Trust me there was no need of this feature. Atleast people use to express what they want in words. But now, its all gone. I thinks only 90's people will understand the importance of written status. Snapchat and Instagram is already having it, and they are doing well. Why WhatsApp? Why you want to copy this from them? Anyways, there is no Undo button for this. WhatsApp has already pushed it out as OTA. But now be careful what your status is, because you must be having your family in the contact list. :)
Cheers!!!
