First Fake-Installer Trojan For Mac OS

Some days back we saw that how a Trojan virus attacked users on Skype. Now for the first time Mac has been affected by a virus. This is a fake installer Trojan. Dr.Web has discovered the first fake installer for macs. This virus tries to obtain your phone number and then it debits the amount from number. Dr.Web has noted this virus as "Trojan.SMSSend.3666". Since this virus is not a Trojan coz it does not affect the OS X in anyway, but a small malware that tries to trick users to enter their phone number and then to activate this program.


Dr.Web says that this virus has been identified on Windows for some time and now this has been found on Mac.


Trojan.SMSSend is a fake installer that are available on various websites as distributions. These are fake installers available on various sites disguised as distributions of legitimate software. As said by Dr.Web, "When a user starts such an installer, they see the interface that imitates the installation wizard of a corresponding application. In order to continue the "installation" fraudsters ask that the victim enter their cellphone number into an appropriate field and then specify the code found in a reply SMS. By performing these actions the user agrees to terms of a chargeable subscription and a fee will be debited from their mobile phone account on a regular basis."

When this fake installer is launched, it displays a Mac like interface windows of VKMusic 4 for Mac. This is an application designed to listen to the music on a popular Russian social networking sites. However to activate this virus they requires a cell phone number and a confirmation code.


Dr.Web warns users against installing programs if they are required to submit their phone number or send a text message—most likely, you will lose money and end up with nothing.
