Solution for "Cannot Delete Folder: It Is Being Used By Another Person Or Program"

We have many files and folders on our machine. Many of the folders are the most important and some are not. But still we want them on our PC. That's ok, this is the same case with me too :) Anyways, we like to keep some folders on our PC which are not that important. Sometimes when we try to delete such folders it gives an error "Cannot delete folder: It is being used by another person or program". Even if all the other applications are closed you still receive this message. Then the only option left is to keep it as it is. But sometimes that can affect your PC.

Unlocker by EmptyLoop is one such application that deletes such restricted folders in just a click. Using this application you can delete any folder which gives you the error, "Cannot delete folder:It is....... another person". It not only allows the user to delete folders with such errors, but also helps to delete the folders which contains following errors:
  1. Cannot delete file: Access is denied
  2. There has been a sharing violation.
  3. The source or destination file may be in use.
  4. The file is in use by another program or user.
  5. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.
How does it works:

1. Download and install Unlocker 1.9.1 (Latest current version) from here.

2. Once installed, simply right click on the folder (the one which gives error) and select Unlocker.

3. If the folder or file is locked, a window listing of lockers will appear.

That's it. Its the simplest way to deletes such folders. It wont take much size on your disk. Look the following image which explain what else Unlocker can do;

Download Unocker

Cheers!!!

  1. Nice share. An alternative tool that i use is " Long Path Tool " is also useful in situations where you see these error messages: Cannot read from source file or disk, there has been a sharing violation, cannot delete file or folder, the file name you specified is not valid or too long, the source or destination file may be in use and many other file managing errors.
