Microsoft's Surface RT and Pro: Review, Specification and Comparison with iPad

Today’s world is moving with latest technology and now gadgets market are flooded with lot of new tablets. The giants are trying their best to deliver the best of the tablet. All new technology has been implemented. After a long time Microsoft has launched its tablet "Surface". For some its an compitetor to iPad's.

The 'Microsoft Surface' is specially designed to work with the firm's new Windows 8 software. Surface will run in two versions, on the one hand will run the Windows 8 Pro operating system and on the other will be based on Windows RT, a new version of Windows designed to run on the ARM family of processors that are predominant in the tablet market. Surface comes with a number of features which make it more similar to a laptop than a tablet - most notably, a built-in keyboard which could help the device appeal more to business customers. Microsoft is using the same Windows 8 operating system for the Surface as for laptop and desktop computers could mean that customers will find it easier to switch between different devices.

What does the Microsoft Surface has in store:
  • The tablets are slim—just 9.3 mm thin on the Windows RT model, and just thick enough for a full-sized USB 2.0 port.

  • The display is large, an optically bonded 10.6 inches wide.
  • The Windows RT tablet weighs in at just 676 grams, or under 1.5 pounds, and is formed from a magnesium composite that Microsoft calls "VaporMg."
  • The professional model will be slightly thicker at 13.5 mm. It will weigh 903 grams.
  • The heftier dimensions are to accommodate the more powerful Core i5 processor which will be cooled through an array of peripheral.
  • The professional Surface will also include a large battery providing 42 Watt-hours in total capacity. The Windows RT tablet's battery capacity is 31.5 W-h.

  • Surface for Windows 8 Pro will also support digital inking, which will allow professional users to add high-resolution markup to Windows 8 software from Autodesk and other vendors, he said.
  • Both versions of the tablet will include an external HDMI port.
  • One of Microsoft's innovations is the TouchCover, which somehow turns blue when connected. The TouchCover, which snaps on with a carefully engineered sound like a car door, is thin at just 3 mm. A thicker, 5mm TouchCover will also be available for a more natural typing feel.

  • Surface for Windows RT will be available in a 32GB and 64GB models and priced in the range of "comparable" tablets, Microsoft said. The professional version will be available in 64GB and 128GB configurations, with prices in the range of Windows-based ultrabooks.
  • Behind the tablet is a kickstand, which "magicallly" fades into the tablet when not in use.

Some Key Features of Surface Tablet:
  • The 9.3mm-thick tablet, which uses the RT version of Windows, comes with a kickstand to hold it upright and keyboard that is part of the device's cover. It weighs under 1.5 pounds.
  • Colourful: The Surface is expected to be available for purchase some time later this year
  • Keyboard: The Surface's in-built keyboard is crucial to the tablet's design, making it more like using a laptop than like many other tablet.
  • A slightly thicker version - still less than 14mm thick and under two pounds - will work on Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 Pro operating system.
  • Slim: The Surface is - perhaps not coincidentally - 0.1mm thinner than its chief rival, the iPad
  • Components: Microsoft's Panos Panay gives the audience an inside look at the tablet's built-in keyboard.
  • Price: No details on pricing were mentioned, except that it would be 'comparable' with current ARM tablets and Intel-powered Ultrabooks.
