This is something for the who uses or works too much on computer, like me :). Anyways, you must have observed that, many times when we have to delete some file or copy some file from one place to another, you get an error that "the file is in used by another person" or "cannot be deleted". Its very annoying. If you want to delete some folder or file before anyone comes or before anyone sees it and if you get such message and you are not able to delete it, man.. i know how it feels. This is because of the fact that some running apps or services might be using the file and locking it, preventing it from deleting. In case you have faced the situation where in you are not able to delete files or folders because of locked state.

But no worries. While surfing i found this software which helps to unlock the file and then we can delete it very easily. The name of the software is "File Governor". The app helps you in situations when you receive an error messages like;
  • Cannot delete folder: It is being used by another person or program
  • Cannot delete file: Access is denied
  • The file is in use by another program or user
Follow the steps below:

1. Download the file from here.

2. Install the application and run it.

3. You will see list of files that are locked and cannot be deleted.

4. Select those file, right click on them -> Select Handle Option -> Unlock All.

5. Once the file is unlocked, you can then force-close the file’s handle, rename, delete etc.

The app is available in portable version as well and you can search directly from the main interface. You can select the locked file and then unlock it from the options available.

This option also gets available in the context menu. If you want to unlock particular file or folder just right click on it and select "Unlock with File Governor".

File Governor is compatible with the following 32-bit and 64-bit Microsoft Windows Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7.

That's it. Now you are able to delete any file or folder.
