Backup / Restore Your Windows 7 Drivers
Drivers plays very important role in our Laptop or PC. Many applications fails to work if their drivers are not properly installed or the drivers are corrupted. I still remember when i bought my first PC many years back. Along with my PC i received a motherboard CD which was having all the setup for the drivers. The setup were for graphics, sound, LAN Settings or any such drivers. Also, later when i had my laptop they too provided me with the driver CD. But now, many laptop/PC manufacturer have stopped providing the drivers CD. The drivers are still available online on their sites, but for many of them it is not. Also what what if you don't have Internet connection? or what if when you need to reinstall Windows 7? So, i was just surfing and came across one such utility which backups all the Windows drivers.
Although there are a number of drivers backup utilities available, including both paid and free options. Double Driver is one of the most used freeware that can help you backup Windows 7 drivers and also restore them, print a list of them and do much more.
The best part is that you don't need to install it. It is directly an executable file which directly runs on double click.
Lets see how this utility works:
1. Go to the Double Driver download page and download the utility in zipped format.
2. Unzip the file and double click the executable to run it.
3. It will pop up a window confirming that it’s ready to run. Click on "Backup".
4. You will now see "Scan Current System" and "Scan Other System" options at the bottom. By default some of your options will be selected. I prefer to select all the drivers.
Note: The current system is the OS installation you are working in. Scan Other System means if you’ve got other Windows installations in separate partitions, you can scan them too using Administrator.
5. Clicking on "Scan Current System" should bring up the drivers. You can then click "Backup" Now to start the backup process. Make sure to save the backup in a different partition of the hard disk (if you’ve created one) or to an external storage device like a USB.
6. A popup will be displayed to save the backup in which output. Select as per your need.
7. The backup process starts and saved in your disk.
That's it. The backup of all the drivers has been stored and can be restore whenever needed. The software offers restoring and printing options which can be used as and when required.
Note: Please make sure to carry your backup in USB device to help it restore again.
