Create Your Own Cloud Server
Before Dropbox and Google Drive entered the cloud service market, it was not that easy to sync files between two devices. But now its just a piece a cake. No matter where you are, you can access your files anytime anywhere using Internet connection. Not only on PCs but now you can access your files on your mobiles too. With all this service, comes the problem of space and paid account. They are not free and need to pay for more storage. Therefor, sometimes it becomes tough to manage the backup and sync when it comes to paid services.
But now that not an issue any more. If you are having a computer and you are connected to Internet all the times, then you can create your personal server on the PC using a service called Tonido. Tonido Desktop allows you to access all your files on your computer from a web browser, smartphone, tablet or even DLNA enabled devices. No setup necessary.
Since you are using your PC as a cloud storage, you have all the space of your hard disk to store data, which solves the problem of space limit. Along with it, the service allows you to sync 2GB of files which automatically modifies across all the devices when it’s changes on one.
Lets see how it works:
1. Download and install Tonido desktop application on your computer.
2. Once the installation is completed, launch it.
3. It will ask your to create your account on your default browser.
4. You will be provided with your personalized URL, using which you can access your cloud account from any computer.
5. Clicking on the Next buttons will lead you to your dashboard.
6. From here you will be able to access all your files and information.
All this files can be downloaded and view anytime. It also supports slideshow and music player, if you are in mood to listen your fav playlist that you created on iTunes or Windows Media Player or can view the photos. The service also supports various applications, like file search, which can help the user in various tasks. The default directory is the user’s application data but that can be changed from the settings.
Accessing your computer files using Tonido smartphone application:
Tonido also provides apps for smartphones using which you can access your computer files on your mobile. Not only access but also you can download and even upload songs to your computer which is a server. The only thing important is that if your computer is turned off, you wont be able to access any of the files, since your computer is the server. The smartphone apps also give the option to stream music and videos directly on the device without downloading the files.
This service also has some limitations. Free user can sync data upto 2GB but an additional Tonido syncing app must be installed for that. If you like this service you can upgrade your plan anytime you want. You can also share your links with guests. But with only 5 guest users and 5 shares is allowed, for free account users.
For me, its not that perfect. If you are at home, some it wont be possible to keep your computer ON with Internet connection which is 24x7. It does has its great features but has its limitations too. The only good about this service is that you have your own space to store data and have to no money for that.
