Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag - Preview

Ubisoft has shown in-game footage of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag for the first time, giving a glimpse of naval battles, underwater exploration and new locations. The next instalment of Assassin's Creed is coming, and the pirate-themed outing will bring back the impressive naval battles seen in Assassin's Creed III, along with new protagonist, Edward Kenway, a pirate with assassin training. Not a mixture you want to mess with.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is an upcoming action-adventure game, and the sixth main installment in the Assassin's Creed series. A sequel to 2012's Assassin's Creed III due to the progression of the modern day storyline, the game will tell the story of Edward Kenway - father to Haytham Kenway, grandfather to Ratonhnhaké:ton and an ancestor of Desmond Miles. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will be set primarily on and around the islands in the Caribbean Sea during the Golden Age of Piracy in the early 18th century, with three major cities consisting of Havana, Nassau and Kingston.

Assassin's Creed 4 will have four different collector's editions in the UK and Ireland, and one in North America, depending on which method consumers use to preorder and purchase the game. There's the Special Edition (exclusive to GAME in the UK and Xtravision in Ireland), the Skull Edition, the Buccaneer Edition (exclusive to GAME in the UK and GameStop in Ireland) and the huge Black Chest Edition, exclusive to Ubisoft's own Uplay store.

New copies of the game will come with "VIP entry" to The Watch, a programme of bonus content and rewards. It sounds like you'll get entry into some kind of Assassin's Creed social network where you can "upload content and compare skills and achievements".

The game is set in the West Indies at the start of the 18th century. Edward will sail to over 50 locations in the islands. In the process, he'll meet infamous pirates such as Blackbeard and Charles Vane.

Players can expect to wield traditional Assassin weapons as well as "armaments of the era," such as flintlock pistols. Ubisoft says that the game "rewards both daring and stealth." They also revealed that the multiplayer from previous games will make a return.

Ubisoft confirmed the previously leaked October 29th release date today. They also formally announced the platform list: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, PC and "other next generation consoles." Presumably one of those unnamed consoles is the next Xbox. The PS4 and PS3 versions, as the box art revealed, will get an hour of exclusive DLC.

Cheers!!!
