Sony Xperia Z: Specification, Review & Price
Sony is all set to launch its recently announced Xperia Z smartphone tomorrow on 6th OF March. The Sony Xperia Z combines looks, power and connectivity to supply one of the most impressive Android experiences we’ve seen in quite some time. Before this handset, Sony has launched Xperia S and Xperia T which were extremely promising, but when it comes to Xperia Z its the best you can get.Sony Xperia Z comes with some of the best specs on the market - and it's one of the most eagerly awaited handsets of recent months.
Sony Xperia Z has a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, with a 5-inch full HD screen. The screen resolution is 1920 x 1080. The device runs Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean, has 2GB RAM and up to 16GB of memory space. This is expandable to 32GB via a microSD card slot. It also support 4G/LTE band for high-speed Internet. The phone is protected by case design which will survive a dip in water of a depth of up to 1 metre for thirty minutes. And it's dust proof as well. It has a pretty heavy duty rear camera with 13.1 megapixel and a 2.2MP front-facing camera. The device supports Near field communications (NFC).
Design:
This time instead of going rounded Sony thought of of being square. No doubt its more stylish than than Xperia S and Xperia T. The Xperia Z is available in black, white and purple. Even if the phone looks large it weights only 145g and measure 5" screen with 139x71x8mm. It has a single large power/sleep button, a thin volume controller and a dock connectors. Everything is hidden behind sealed plastic grommets including microSD card, Sim Slot, USB Port and 3.5 mm jack.
More than that it's a rugged phone in a smoothie body. It might be covered in glass, but it's scratch resistant and shatterproof, as well as being water and dust resistant .
Hardware:
The specification is same as Google Nexus 4. The 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM will definitely give a good result. The Xperia Z with its Adreno 320 managed a very impressive 30fps. It has a 5" Reality Display with its Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution which makes the Xperia Z stand out. The screen is nothing short of stunning and easily the best we've ever seen on a smartphone.
This phone contains a whopping 441ppi pixel density, the highest we've ever seen on a phone, and colours look particularly rich and vibrant. It like watching TV on your phone. In size its just a slight bigger than HTC One X+ which has a 4.7" screen. The Xperia Z is a bit limited on the storage front with only a 16GB model. There is a microSD card for up to 32GB cards, though.
But when it comes to connectivity, Xperia Z is not that short. It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC (near-field communications), aGPS and DLNA (digital living network alliance) certifications. The Xperia Z comes with support for wireless charging and 4G LTE networks. With NFC, the Xperia Z can connect to a range of Sony accessories with one touch including speakers, headphones and Sony's 2013 TV range.
Camera:
The device has a 13Mp rear facing camera with Sony's Exmor RS sensor. Its Superior Auto mode adjusts the settings accordingly. There's a burst mode (10 frames per second), sweep panorama, various filter effects and the HRD mode is particularly good. The Xperia Z enables HDR in video mode, which is the first to do so. There's also a decent 2Mp front facing webcam. Like the rear camera, it can shoot Full HD 1080p video.
Software:
The Xperia Z comes pre-loaded with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and will be upgrade to version 4.2 shortly after launch according to Sony. The interface is very similar when compared to the 2012 Xperia smartphones but there are a few changes.
The lockscreen is basic compared to others with only access to the notifications menu, camera and music player controls. With an almost up-to-date version of Jelly Bean there are expandable notifications and importantly Google Now. You will see some specification bar placed at the top of the phone. This phone gives you plenty of wallpapers and widget that you can customize the way you want.
On the homescreen you will see a timer and sticky note app floating around like a windows gadget. There is, of course, access to the Google Play Store for apps, books, magazines, films and music. But Sony also provides its own, such as Music Unlimited and PlayStation Mobile as part of the Sony Entertainment Network.
Performance:
The Xperia Z has 4G LTE capability though you'll need a contract with EE to take full advantage of it. The 1.5GHz quad-core processor is one of the best you get in a smartphone which is backed by a full 2GB RAM. Believe me, its more powerful engine.
I think it will definitely defeat the quad-core rivals like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, HTC One X+ and Google Nexus 4. In short this one of the fastest smarphone you will see. It wont be wrong to say that the phone gets a bit hotter when doing 3D gaming, watching a movie or even just listening to music.
Conclusion:
The Sony Xperia Z is one of the best handset offering (almost) the best of Android plus a terrific screen, very fine camera, super-powerful processor and lots more besides. If its in your budget and if you can handle size and the weight, you should be proud of having this phone. Believe me this is one such smartphone with all features and the best you can get. Don't wait, just go for it.
Cheers!!!
