Samsung Galaxy S4 Launched: Specification, Review & Price
The South Korean giant, Samsung launched its most anticipated and awaited smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S4 at the Unpacked Events 2013 in Manhattan's iconic Radio City Music Hall on Thursday evening. The launch of Samsung Galaxy S4 made us to forget about the touch screen, it has features that allow you to control the phone with waving and tilting motions.
The phone itself looks fairly similar to the Galaxy S3, but there are some slight aesthetic changes. Notably, the back is a lot flatter and the sides have also been straightened out. Overall, it's less curvaceous, although nothing like the bold changes we were told to expect. The sides have a chrome trim, which could be faux aluminium, but we will have to wait for the actual device to check it out.
Talking about the specification:
Design:
The screen is a massive 5" mega dsiplay with a robust 1080 p resolution. It is covered with Corning's Gorilla Glass 3. The display is full HD Super AMOLED and it brings 441 pixels, the only second smartphone phone to give 441 pixels after Xperia Z. The phone will have Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Processor:
The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be powered by the 8-core Exynos Octa 5 CPU, which will be clocked at 1.9 GHz. Matching industry standards, it will be paired with 2GB RAM. But the US version of this smartphone will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor. Also, it will run on the Android v4.2.2 operating system with the TouchWiz Nature UX (user interface).
Storage:
The Samsung Galaxy S4 will come in three variants with different storage sizes: 16 GB, 32GB and 64GB. All three will offer microSD card support.
Camera:
Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 13MP rear camera with a 2MP front facing camera. The important feature the camera has is that, the cameras can be used together to shoot photos and videos in what Samsung calls a "Dual" mode. Many other shooting modes are also available, including a Drama mode.
Connectivity:
Samsung Galaxy S4 has Near Field Communication (NFC) along with Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, Wi-Fi, 3G/LTE (long-term evolution), built-in IR Blaster. These will vary by country. An IR blaster or infrared blaster is similar to an infrared remote control for a device.
Smart Pause and Smart Scroll:
The most awaited feature that everyone was talking about before the launch is the eye tracking feature which is the integral part of the phone. Smart Scroll allows users to scroll without touching the phone while Smart Pause will pause a video when you turn away from the phone, using facial recognition.
Air View:
It allows the user to hover a finger over the content in certain apps and get a pop-up view of what's inside. For instance, over a thumbnail, to get a larger preview of a photo.
Battery:
The flagship smartphone has got one with 2,600 mAh capacity.
Others:
There are many others apps that are included. Some of the apps are used only by Samsung Galaxy S4 and were made specially for Galaxy S4
